“For one to understand the light, one must've walked in the dark.”
I often say that for one to understand the light, one must’ve walked in the dark. I have a lot of stories to tell, but here’s a chapter. I was born in Guam and raised in Guam, WA, and Hawai’i. I grew up with a single parent and faced much emotional, physical, and sexual abuse since I was 5. Moving several times and having gone to 10 different schools, instability was a BIG issue. While battling with anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts, I didn’t know if I could make it to age 18. As a result of therapy and prescribed drugs NOT working, I coped with drugs and alcohol, fell into debt, and became homeless.
After overcoming all that, plus chronic nerve pain in my 30s, I began my quest to become an entrepreneur where I could help people. I didn’t know how, but I was on a mission to figure it out. From working in sales and retail, at a gym as a fitness director, and climbing the ladder in numerous positions in the culinary industry, I began investing in holistic health coaching to help people through diet and nutrition. As soon I started coaching other coaches in the program, I immediately understood my purpose. I help people overcome issues I understand well without treatment, therapy, or prescribed drugs. Once this happens, I see people do things they never thought were possible for them, and they finally live a life they enjoy. It’s been a wonderful experience to help others. It’s empowering for all of us. Not just the people I’m directly working with but also their family, coworkers, friends, and community. It’s an incredible experience.
I’ve supported more than 15 nonprofits in various areas by tutoring kids and helping homeless animals and people, educators, environmental conservation, and local restaurants. I’ve sold everything from food, wine, home furniture, décor from around the world, Japanese accessories, TVs, and fitness programs, so becoming an entrepreneurial coach was a natural thing for me. I understand various industries.
I took off my first year and produced over 40 community-building events in under 4 years to serve the community, and I have been featured in numerous publications and interviews, including Ka Wai Ola, Living 808, and Natural Awakenings Magazine. Here’s a clip of one event I’ve produced and led for 2 years to empower women and strengthen sisterhood called Girlfriends.
